A Year in Bass - Week 5 - Problem Patterns
This week has been the first that I've not really made quick progress. I know I'm still improving but it has been slowed. As I explain in the vid I need to take a fresh approach to scales.
To the experienced bass players out there - if you notice me doing anything stupid - just shout
I'd appreciate it.
Show Notes
Bass recording is again much better thanks to an M-Audio Fast Track USB Audio Interface.
I've been doing some new fretting hand exercises this week. Again from active bass - look for lesson 17015 - This has been giving the left hand a real workout
A link for the transcription of I Feel Good is below for registered users of HTP.
This coming week I'll learn another piece - suggestions always welcome
From the Friedland book I'm going to use the 10 standard progressions at the back of the book and try to apply what I've learnt so far to these exercises.
From Fingerstyle Funk I'm moving on from the simple picking exercises to some of the more difficult (but more tuneful) exercises.
As I also mentioned I'm going to do a lot of listening this week to good bass players. Those I have in mind at the moment are:
- Jaco
- Charles Mingus
- Ray Brown
- Paul Mccartney
- Stanley Clarke
- Victor Wooten
- Francis Rocco Prestia
- James Jamerson
- Larry Graham
- Duck Dunn
- Ron Carter
- Verdine White
I'm very open to other suggestions you might have . . . .. .
