It is a difficult choice but one that practicing musicians are faced with everyday. It's also worth mentioning that what is important to one person may be less important for another - we all have different strengths and weaknesses to work on.
I do find it interesting that so far technique is percieved as being most important - let's see how the poll progresses. . . .

I feel that once the technique is sussed then you should be able to play anything; however, it's no good just being technically accurate, as there's so much more involved. Someone could be technically spot on but lack any musicality, and play in an unmoving, mechanical way. But I personally think that the 'technique' bit is probably the hardest & therefore needs most practice!
