About Jeff_NextStepMusic
I love playing the euphonium and listening to good quality brass band and classical music. My background is in traditional brass bands in England. I played in some of the very best Championship level bands in the country. In 1994, I emigrated to the USA and was fortunate to play principal euphonium in the St. Louis Brass Band. In the US, I have been fortunate to have been influenced by some of the great American euphonium players, particularly Dr. Brian Bowman who has been very helpful to me. He is an outstanding teacher. I also have had several lessons from the great euphonium player David Childs.Based on David's advice, I became interested in using portable digital recorders during practicing to improve overall playing standard. I have found this is very effective for improving individual practice sessions. It is also great for recording band, choir, orchestra or any group rehearsals so that you can study the recordings after the rehearsals. Re:
Hi Jeff, welcome to How To Practice!
I too have some experience of playing with championship level bands here in the UK. From a practice perspective they present an interesting view. I'm not sure I know of any other area of music making where they rehearse so much or in quite so much detail. This is good on the one hand in that they do get down to detail, however I think it leaves these bands ill equipped to deal with a professional situation where there is one or no rehearsal before a performance.
Anyway, would be interested to hear more on your thoughts about using recorders for practice.
